There are a total of three method by which you can expand your PS5’s storage space so that you can have more games in your arsenal ready to be played. The PCIe expansion bay is an extra storage lot available in the PS5 console. But it was inactive at the time of launch. This is the recommended way to expand your console’s storage. This is a PCIe Gen 4 M.2 NVMe SSD card slot. We highly recommend you to use the Sony-certified SSDs to get optimal performance. If it is not Sony-certified, then it may not have the appropriate size or specifications compatible for PS5.

How to Expand PS5 Storage using the PCIe expansion bay?

Following are the steps towards how to expand PS5 storage using PCIe slot.

  • First, remove the side panels of PS5 console.
  • Second, with the help of a screwdriver, remove the metal panel over the green internal slot.
  • Third, Insert the SSD.

NOTE :- PS5 does supports the USB external storage but it is not recommended for PS5 or upgraded PS4 games, as it will not be able to perform with respect to the intended speed of SSD. It will affect the performance of the game and so will reduce the expected efficiency of the console.
