As we all know that mythology has always been a great source to the video game industries. From God of War to Okami, their are a lot of games who are utilizing the concepts of different mythologies from around the world.

Yet, this may be the first time that the Hindu mythology has been a part of a video game. Until now that the Pune-based Nodding Head Games as made “Raji An Ancient Epic” a reality. This game contains strong story and provides a beautiful gameplay to the players, with all due respect to the sentiments of the Culture and the Religion.

Story in Brief

Raji is based on a tale that represents the difference between the good and the evil. The story reflects the bygone war that made the Demons to return to the shadows. But now they are on their way to return to the surface, while they are being lead by the Demon lord asura Mahabalasura. And they have decided to take over the land and cause chaos to the human world.

Raji and her brother are both street performers, where Raji is a nimble acrobat and tightrope walker, and here brother Golu is a puppeteer. When the Invasions initiated, Raji and Golu got separated. As days passes on, Raji opens her eyes to find Golu missing and realizes that she has acquired the powers given by gods, as she becomes the chosen one to stand against the Demon lord. Raji starts her journey in search of her brother Golu and in this journey, she learns more about the powers she has got.

The story is narrated with a 2D puppetry representation. The script and voice-over is pretty good. But a Hindi voice-over could have made a huge difference.

Touch of Reality

The details of the game including story and the environment has so much resemblance to the real aspects of the culture. With the texture of the game represents the Royal lifestyle of ancient Rajasthan. Raji can perform wall runs, jumps and climbs which represents her character of being a street performer.

Some key features to mention are the development of statues by the shaft of light, walls full of illustrations, different types of cravings, palaces with the sculptures and textures, with sunlight reflecting from the glass.

I will recommend you to play the game on a big screen rather than Nintendo Switch, as the game has a zoomed out camera and it can be hard to notice Raji on the tiny screen of Nintendo Switch.

Overall, the game has made a mark on the world of gaming, though some things can be improved but that wont stop the success of this game.
